Yellow Ginger Festival

The Annual Yellow Ginger Festival, organized by the East Indian Council of Belize-Southern Chapter, is a joyous celebration of East Indian culture, traditions, and cuisine. Held over two days in Punta Gorda Town or surrounding East Indian communities, the festival features a Culture Explosion night and a Yellow Ginger Park Fest, offering food, activities, and cultural showcases.

Highlights of the event include immersing oneself in the rich heritage of Belize’s East Indian community, experiencing traditional practices and savouring authentic cuisine. The Culture Explosion night bursts with music, dance, and performances, bringing the essence of East Indian culture to life. Visitors can witness demonstrations of traditional coconut husking and grating techniques and learn about the spices and flavours central to East Indian cuisine through masala-making demonstrations.

A Tacari Eating Contest adds a flavorful challenge for attendees, testing their taste buds with this traditional East Indian dish. The Yellow Ginger Festival serves as a platform for the East Indian community to share their culture, traditions, and culinary delights, inviting visitors to experience the uniqueness of Belize’s cultural diversity.
