8 Things You Can’t Miss | The Ultimate Belize Bucket List

It’s no secret many adventure travelers flock to Belize because of our famed Great Blue Hole; knocking off a World Heritage Site off your bucket list is an indescribable feeling. Luckily, while you’re here visiting the world-renowned cavernous underwater hole, Belize offers a few other things you can add to that bucket list, from Maya sites to gastronomical must-dos.

Belize Bucket List:

  1. Shark Ray Alley. The Hol Chan Marine Reserve & Shark Ray Alley some little ways from Ambergris Caye is something you have to experience while venturing the North Islands. The main attraction is feeding and swimming alongside nurse sharks (don’t worry, they don’t bite!)
  1. World’s Narrowest Street. Did you know the Guinness’ Book of World Records once named the street in Placencia the narrowest in the world? As if that isn’t luring enough, its right beside the sea so you can walk on a ‘world record’ while enjoying the Caribbean Sea breeze.
  1. ATM Cave. One of the most popular caving explorations in Western Belize is the Actun Tunichil Muknal cave. With a Maya skeleton taking resident in the cave to the chilly waters carrying you and your tube throughout the dark tunnel, the tour is one of the most thrilling.
  1. Try Orange Walk Tacos. If you’ve done your bit of (culinary) research on Belize, you know the north is where the tacos flag flies high. Orange Walk even has a Taco Festival every November! Pretty much any of the tacos stands in Orange Walk town will do the culinary enthusiasts proud.
  1. Cockscomb Basin. Belize is the only country in the world with a Jaguar Reserve. At Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary in Western Belize, you get to hike to a gorgeous waterfall in a vast protected area dedicated to Belize’s big cats.
  1. Summit Caracol. If you haven’t noticed by now, we do have a lot of ‘world’ records. To add on to that list, the Caracol Maya Site in Western Belize is one of the highest man-made structures in the region.
  1.  Dance Punta. Learn the ways and the moves of the Garifuna people by heading down south to dance the traditional Punta dance. The trick is in your hips, and with the Garifunas drumming soulfully, the dance will come to you instead of the other way around.
  1. Rice & Beans. You know we couldn’t leave our main Belize staple off this list. There’s only one right way to make rice & beans and that’s the Belizean way. Venture into the city and stop at any food stand with a chalkboard sign spelling out the dish and you won’t be disappointed.
