Bioluminescence Tour

Experience the seasonal bioluminescence tour during Belize’s dry season from December to May. Cruise in the Anderson Lagoon in Sittee River Village, where harmless microorganisms called dinoflagellates emit a blue glow when disturbed. The mixture of salt and fresh water causes the lagoon to be warm; hence, it is locally known as “burning wata.” Glide down the lagoon under a starlit sky as you witness fish, jellyfish, and other marine life, with giant mangroves lining the tour route. A low-light camera is essential for this tour to capture the blue glow of the bioluminescence. This night tour offers a unique opportunity to see the fascinating beauty of nature.
